JAHURAL ISLAM MEDICAL COLLEGE & HOSPITAL

Jahurul Islam Medical College & Hospital (JIMC&H), founded in 1992 by entrepreneur and philanthropist Jahurul Islam, is the second-oldest private medical institution in Bangladesh. Situated in Bhagalpur, Bajitpur Upazila of Kishoreganj District, it is the first medical college in the nation located in a rural region.

Campus and Facilities:

The college grounds cover about 52.62 acres and are organized around a serpentine lake, including gardens that create a peaceful atmosphere for education. The campus contains an academic facility, distinct hostels for male and female students, quarters for staff, and the Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital—a teaching hospital with 390 beds, which aims to increase capacity to 500 beds. Furthermore, the Jahurul Islam Nursing Training Institute shares the premises, providing nursing education accredited by the Bangladesh Nursing Council and the Directorate of Nurse Services (DNS).

Academic Programs:

JIMC&H provides a five-year Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) course, followed by a mandatory one-year internship. The college has an affiliation with the University of Dhaka and is acknowledged by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). The educational calendar spans from January to December. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) centrally manages admission for Bangladeshi students via a written exam, whereas 50% of the seats are allocated for international students, with admission contingent on their academic credentials.

Hospital Services:

The affiliated hospital functions as a tertiary care facility, offering an extensive array of medical services to the nearby rural community. It provides crucial healthcare amenities and specialized medical services, playing a vital role in the region's healthcare infrastructure.
